The Replica line runs on a simple premise: fragrance as a memory-retrieval device, each one built to trigger a specific moment rather than to just smell good in the abstract. By the Fireplace names its memory outright — Chamonix, 1971, an Alpine ski town in winter, wood-paneled chalets, chestnuts roasting somewhere close by. Marie Salamagne built it almost like a scene rather than a scent: smoky clove and pink pepper standing in for the fire itself, chestnut and guaiac wood for the room around it, vanilla and cashmeran for the lingering warmth after everyone's gone to bed. It's less a perfume you wear to be noticed than one you wear because it's cold outside.
