Olfactif Alternatives: Curated Boxes or Your Own Samples

Written by Base Note Editorial, a fragrance retailer. We are not affiliated with Olfactif. This guide compares different ways to sample perfume; it is not an independent product test. Official plan details were checked on September 10, 2026.

The most useful Olfactif alternative depends on what you want to change. Perhaps you want to choose every fragrance yourself. Perhaps you want more of one scent, fewer deliveries, or no subscription at all. If you enjoy discovering unfamiliar perfumes chosen by someone else, Olfactif may already be the right format. Start with that distinction before comparing prices.

What Olfactif offers

Olfactif's subscription page describes a curated monthly selection: three fragrances in its Men's or Women's collections, or six in Deluxe. Each spray sample contains 2 ml. On the date checked, the three-sample collections were $22 per month and Deluxe was $40. Its official product data and FAQ agreed on those regular monthly prices.

That means a three-sample box contains 6 ml across three scents, while Deluxe contains 12 ml across six. Those totals are simple arithmetic, not a claim that every milliliter is equally valuable. The appeal is variety. Olfactif's how-it-works guide describes themed collections and supporting perfume education. If exploring outside your existing preferences sounds enjoyable, curation can be a benefit rather than a limitation.

Alternative 1: choose individual samples without changing stores

You do not necessarily need to leave Olfactif to stop receiving a curated box. Its sample shop offers individual 2 ml spray samples. Choosing those separately can make sense if you already have a shortlist or want to investigate a specific perfumer. Check the price and availability of each sample, plus shipping, before comparing it with a subscription.

This is also a useful answer to a common problem: enjoying discovery but not wanting another recurring bill. A one-time selection gives you a natural pause after the order. You can finish testing what you own and decide when to buy again.

Alternative 2: spend longer with one fragrance

Base Note's one-time travel vials contain 5 ml of one selected fragrance. The current first eligible vial is $20; additional eligible vials in the same order are $18 each. There is no subscription requirement. This format gives you more of a single scent than a 2 ml sample, but less variety than a three-scent box. It suits someone who wants to test a particular fragrance across ordinary days before deciding about a bottle.

For a focused shortlist, compare Creed Silver Mountain Water, Parfums de Marly Layton, Xerjoff Erba Pura and Bond No. 9 Bleecker Street. Their product pages describe different compositions; they are examples from Base Note's current collection, not claims about what Olfactif stocks. Choose one that interests you rather than treating a list of popular names as a required shopping basket.

Alternative 3: keep the monthly rhythm, choose the scent

If you like recurring discovery but want control over the selection, Base Note's Monthly Rotation is a 5 ml subscription. The current introductory shipment is $15, then $20 each month until canceled. The account portal manages upcoming fragrances. A one-time vial and Monthly Rotation are separate choices; adding a one-time vial should not enroll you.

Neither format wins automatically on quantity. Olfactif's $22 three-sample collection is about $3.67 per ml, while Base Note's regular $20 rotation is $4 per ml. The relevant question is whether you want three smaller introductions or a longer trial of one scent. Compare total delivered cost and the current selection as well as those volume figures.

Read the renewal details before switching

Olfactif's cancellation guidance gives a monthly cutoff of the 15th and says prepaid subscriptions continue for their already-paid term; stopping renewal does not refund those remaining months. It also distinguishes nonrenewing gift subscriptions. Check your account's actual schedule before placing a second recurring order elsewhere.

For Base Note, review the FAQ, selected subscription terms and checkout total. If your aim is eventually to buy a bottle, compare the actual full-bottle availability and price when you are ready. You can start with one vial, learn from it, and leave the next purchase undecided.
