Mesh Metal belongs to La Collection Rabanne, an eight-fragrance line the house built specifically to be bolder and stranger than its mainstream releases, each one handed to a different perfumer with more room to experiment. Fanny Bal took this one, built around a contrast baked right into the name — a mesh, something woven and soft, against metal, something hard and cold. It opens citrus-bright with lime and petitgrain, but the whole thing is really an amber fragrance underneath, warm and radiant rather than sharp, which is the twist the name is hinting at.
