From the JournalCreed Aventus Review: Is It Worth $395? An Honest Answer →
Aventus was built as a biography. Released in 2010 for Creed's 250th anniversary, every note is meant to trace a piece of Napoleon Bonaparte's life — ambition, exile, empire. Blackcurrant comes from Corsica, where he was born; birch comes from Louisiana, the territory he once ruled and sold away. The name itself is an old word for "success," which is either fitting or a little on the nose, depending on how you feel about a fragrance named after an emperor who died in exile. Whatever the mythology, it became the most imitated men's fragrance of the last two decades for a reason.
